I have teamed up with the CICM to build resilience during these stressful times
1. Strike the right balance
Stress helps us meet the demands of home, work and family life; too much can affect our mood, body and relationships – especially when it feels out of our control. It’s how we deal with it that matters
2. Ask your employer to provide support
Companies who fail to provide mental health support, risk seeing productivity drop by 25% (Warwick Business School). Do you have an EAP?
3. Find the cause of your stress
Is it task-related such as competing priorities, or emotive such as self-esteem? Or interpersonal with a colleague? Talk to someone about it
4. Learn from others
Resilient people use positive emotions to recover from experiences and buffer against stress
5. Adopt a positive mindset
Live in a ‘circle of influence’ by seeing opportunities not problems and focusing on realistic outcomes
6. Focus on what really matters
Prioritise activities based on importance and urgency. Stick to a routine and work in the present
7. Refresh your body, mind and spirit
Commit to self-care coping strategies: physical (exercise), spiritual (mindfulness), mental (goals) and social (support group)
